Buckling of Thin-Walled Cylinders from Three Dimensional Nonlinear Elasticity

چکیده

Abstract The famous bifurcation analysis performed by Flügge on compressed thin-walled cylinders is based a series of simplifying assumptions, which allow to obtain the landscape, together with explicit expressions for limit behaviours: surface instability, wrinkling, and Euler rod buckling. most severe assumption introduced use an incremental constitutive equation, does not follow from any nonlinear hyperelastic law. This strong limitation applicability theory, becomes questionable when utilized material characterized different such as instance Mooney-Rivlin material. We re-derive entire Flügge’s formulation, thus obtaining framework where equation fits. two equations, referred compressible materials, leads reduce those derived under suitable simplifications. His results are confirmed, all now rigorously obtained, his theory extended. extension buckling thin shells allows computationally efficient determination landscapes laws, may be used model biomechanics arteries, or soft pneumatic robot arms.

Buckling Optimization of Radially-Graded, Thin-Walled, Long Cylinders under External Pressure

This paper presents a generalized formulation for the problem of buckling optimization of anisotropic, radially graded, thin-walled, long cylinders subject to external hydrostatic pressure. The main structure to be analyzed is built of multi-angle fibrous laminated composite lay-ups having different volume fractions of the constituent materials within the individual plies. This yield to a piece...

Euler Buckling of Thin - Walled Composite Columns •

Pultruded composite structural members with open or closed thin-walled sections are being extensively used as columns for structural applications l1Jhere buckling is the main consideration in the design. In this paper, global buckling is investigated and critical loads are experimentally determined for various fiber reinforced composite I-beams of long column length. Southwell's method is used ...

Crumpling, buckling, and cracking: Elasticity of thin sheets

crumple, stretch, or tear it. Sometimes the sheet can spring right back to its original form, as with a roll of paper, while other times it is permanently changed, as with torn plastic. The subtle mathematics of differential geometry is needed to make sense of the deformed sheets, and along the way it offers insights into issues such as the shapes of...

Local, Distortional, and Euler Buckling of Thin-Walled Columns

Open cross-section, thin-walled, cold-formed steel columns have at least three competing buckling modes: local, distortional, and Euler ~i.e., flexural or flexural-torsional! buckling. Closed-form prediction of the buckling stress in the local mode, including interaction of the connected elements, and the distortional mode, including consideration of the elastic and geometric stiffness at the w...

Strength Design Curves for Thin-Walled Sections Undergoing Distortional Buckling

Certain types of cold-formed sections, notably those composed of high-strength steel, some decking sections and racking sections may undergo a mode of buckling called distortional in which edge and intermediate stiffeners are inadequate to prevent lateral movement of the flanges which they support. The existing design methods in current standards and specifications are often not adequate to acc...
